• Says negotiations to end the war will start immediately, after holding a telephone call with Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump. (CNN) (Euronews)

• Falsely accused the federal government of paying millions to news organizations. Trump called money paid to Politico, Reuters and The New York Times for subscriptions “buying the press” and said the money should be paid back to taxpayers. Read more

• Announced a plan to work with Russia on a cease-fire to end the war in Ukraine. Negotiations began on a phone call between Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia to improve relations between the two countries. Mr. Trump held a call with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine after speaking to Putin. Read more

• Started firing probationary employees at the Education Department. The dismissal letters were sent out as a federal judge ruled that the administration’s deferred resignation program for federal workers could move forward. Read more

• Became the chair of the Kennedy Center after firing its president. Richard Grenell, a Trump loyalist who was ambassador to Germany during the first Trump administration, was appointed the center’s interim president. Read more

• Nominated an oil and gas advocate to run the Bureau of Land Management. The agency within the Interior Department oversees grazing, logging, drilling and wildlife conservation on 245 million acres of public land.

• Deported Asian migrants to Panama. President José Raúl Mulino of Panama said they would be repatriated to their home countries with the help of the International Organization for Migration, which is part of the United Nations. Read more

• Revised plan to buy armored Teslas. Tesla’s name was removed from a State Department document of planned vehicle purchases after its inclusion in the procurement forecast was widely reported. Read more

• Announced that interest rates should be lowered to go “hand in hand” with tariffs, positioning the president to be at odds with the Federal Reserve Board. A day earlier, the chair of the Fed, Jerome Powell, signaled that the agency had little urgency to lower rates as inflation remained high. Read more

• Held more than 50 troops at the U.S. military base in Guantánamo Bay, some of whom were guarded by troops rather than civilian immigration officers. The government has not released the men’s names but has described them as Venezuelan citizens under final deportation orders. Read more

• Began terminating probationary employees at the General Services Administration. The agency manages the federal real estate portfolio and much of the government’s tech work force. Read more

• Blocked a reporter from The Associated Press from entering the White House, again. “We reserve the right to decide who gets to go into the Oval Office,” said Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary. Read more

• Signed an executive order to ‘reform’ the Foreign Service. The order says all foreign policy arms of the government must devise “an effective and efficient means” of ensuring that the president’s orders are followed. Read more

• Planned a $400 million order for armored vehicles from Tesla. Elon Musk, who has been advising Trump on how to cut government spending and is the chief executive of Tesla, is likely to obtain a lucrative contract for his company.

• Sued New York for its immigration policies.
  Attorney General Pam Bondi specifically cited a New York law that allows people in the state to get a driver’s license regardless of citizenship or legal status. Read more

• Called the Education Department ‘a big con job’. Trump said he wanted to see the department closed immediately. Read more

• Ordered an investigation into Comcast’s D.E.I. practices. The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission ordered an investigation into the parent company of NBC and Universal Studios. Read more

• Announced that the war in Ukraine would end by diplomacy with Russia at the table, and that the U.S. did not support Ukraine’s goal to restore its pre-2014 borders. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, in his first meeting with NATO and Ukrainian defense ministers, that a return to Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders was “an unrealistic objective” and an “illusionary goal” in the peace settlement.  Read more
